My Cup Runneth Over

I recently started working with Libby Kleine of Half Full. Libby runs an amazing graphic design shop in Haverford, PA that supports environmetal and social justice organizations. It is really nice to be able to use my talents for good and working with Libby gives me that opportunity. Not only does Half Full provide graphic design for their clients, they actually help them find grants and secure funds so that they can afford to promote themselves. THAT RULES!

Below are two invitation concepts (in a fairly rough form) that we worked on for the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission:

P.S. Check out Libby's freaking adorable hand-made wallets!

The moment we’ve all been waiting for...

Can I brag about Brian Romero for a moment? Sure…
Brian launched his first portfolio site in aeons, and it was greeted with a resounding cheer heard across the land. If you're into gross-out humor, evil, cartoons or would like to learn a few things about his process and influences, take a look through some of his more recent work and show the man some love. YAY BRIAN!!!!

Couture, Baby! (NSFW)

For those of you who aren't familiar with the phenomenon that is Amanda Lepore, feast your eyes! Amanda is a tranny socialite whose likeness is the inspiration for a new line of dolls created by Jason Wu of Integrity Toys.
Oh No They Didn't reports: “There will be 3 dolls made (less than 100 of each)…Many collaborators participated in this project including NARS Cosmetics (Makeup), Les Christophs (Scent, yes she will be scented) and David LaChapelle (Photography)…Net proceeds of the doll, which retails for $199.00 will go to the Design Industry Foundation Fight AIDS (DIFFA) charity.”

And just incase you wanted more more more Lepore, check out Manhattan Offender's coverage and of course, the imfamous naked jaunt with Spongebob Squarepants, thanks to Getty.

‘Til Death Do Us Part

I will never get enough of these two:

This week Brian introduced me to Dave Navarro's at-home radio station Spread Radio Live and now we’re hooked. It is basically Dave and friends playing tracks from his iTunes library, interjecting random foul comments (DEEEEEEEZ NUTTTTZZZZ) and stories about life as a rock n' roll superstar. Beware of the Bee Jellyfish show, however- even if you think Suicide Girls are hot, this one is painfully dumb with iffy taste in tunes. You can also catch Carmen Electronica Hour if you're into that sorta thing...

Abra Cadaver!

Zachary Baldus just relaunched his website. The new gallery has tons of work you've never seen plus golden oldies like the image above, one of my favorites: Abra Cadaver. With the red, black and white theme how can a Faust resist?

Zachary’s work blows my mind- beautiful color, interesting drawings, shapes that disappear into one another but still define the space...He is so damn talented AND he’s a great dude! Show him some love!

The View from Under the Sea

Have you ever noticed the uncanny resemblance between Ursula, Evil Sea Witch (from The Little Mermaid) and Star Jones Reynolds? Obviously it's not a weight thing, or an ethinicity thing…it’s the maniacal grin, the over-posed posture, THE PURPLE, atrocious hair, the thirst for blood...

Can you spot the imposter “Star Jones” in drag?

Wicked Garden

The peat pots are being purchased tomorrow and I'll be starting the seeds this week. I haven't had a garden since I was about 15 so I'm making the best of yard space this year and growing as much of my own food as possible.

On the roster: beets, garlic, onions, celery, variety of tomatoes, variety of peppers, green beans, soybeans, snap peas, cukes, lettuces, variety of herbs, collard greens, swiss chard, radishes and brussels sprouts for late harvest.

It is going to be delicious! If you ask nicely I will save you a jar of fire roased tomato sauce at the end of the season…

Yay!

Pardon the look of Le Blog this weekend...we're finally switching servers!

Rokken

There are so many reasons to visit Sleaze Roxx right this very moment. A shrine to all things glam-metal-hair-band this site is an insane vault of info about 80’s rock and beyonddddd. Even if the music isn't your thing, it's worth a trip to witness the appalling fashion choices. A winner any way you look at it!

So Gonzo!

Back in January I was reading Mainlines, Blood Feasts, and Bad Taste A Lester Bangs Reader and was feeling the vibe so much that I constructed this wonky type as a homage.

These files currently lie in the hands of Serge Seidlitz who will soon summon the Powers of the Moustache to create a collaboration SO GONZO, it will bring Hunter Thompson back from the dead. You will be the first to know.

ένα δωμάτιο με θέα

Funny I should mention Paros in my last post. Today I heard from two women who I shared a semester with at The Aegean Center for Fine Arts. We spent several months together living on an island in the Aegean Sea. I did a ton of life drawing there, learned how to cook from scratch, gut and clean fish, scale craggy cliffsides, bask in the sun and get a killer tan (this is pretty big feat for a white girl such as myself) and enjoyed the finer (simpler) things in life. Don't get me wrong- I also drank a lot of beer and danced like a maniac at eurotrash clubs and went for 4 a.m. dips in the ocean with strangers. Here are some visuals:Hiking to Archilochos' Cave

Back in the day...

Some of your may remember me as a painter...before I recognized that all I really wanted to do was make design. My formal training influenced me to see graphic design as fine art and it was the best foundation I could've asked for. Going through old work today I found some paintings and thought I should post a few:
Beatrice, Paros, Greece 2001

Flip, Northampton, Mass 1999

Myself 2002

So weird to see these again!

Undercurrent

Some custom type from the vault! I was recently hired to re-work some album design work for L.A. glam rock band Undercurrent. While I was at it, I updated their logo with some sex appeal. Check it out:

ANIMAL!

I will admit that it was Ludwig's current logo (upper left hand corner) that enticed me to purchase their drums. Through research and help from my drum teacher, Paula Spiro, I've set my sights on vintage kits from 1964-1974. Lately, I've been leaning toward a white kit with birch shells...SO HOT. But I wouldn't say no to this insane sparkle kit from the 50's that I found on Ludwig Drummer.

Diabolic Scheme

I am currently in the research phase of a new design project centered around different artists' interpretations of the Black Arts. The limited edition set will include a small book, a new font, a dingbat font based on the theme, a motion graphics music video (with original score, costume and choreography) and limited edition silkscreened posters. The project is an exploration of satanism, grimoire, demonology, witchcraft, hoaxes, posession, seance/medium, pre-hispanic codexes, talismans, numerology and anything else that is deemed evil enough.

Some of you may be wondering where the black arts project has been hiding. I'm sorry. I know that research was supposed to be in full swing as of February. I've dug back into my occult library and plan on posting more information here as the collaboration unfolds. To prove my honor, here is a page from my devlish sketchbook:
In the meantime, check out some of the artists who are working with Faust Haus to make this happen: Brian Romero, Serge Seidlitz, Jon Mizrachi, Kirsten Johansen, Arielle Toelke & Rachel Brensilver.
